посидел на одном сайте, посвященном хотфиксам, проникся
update и public и extreme по сути можно (нужно) объединять - например в official
extreme и testing аналогично в unofficial

по степени распаковки обновлений внутри - msu cab folder
разумно остановиться на cab, хотя никаких "цифровых подписей" ни на cab ни на msu не прорисовывается
просто удобнее оперировать с сотней а не с тысячами файлов

по х64 пока ничего не выходит, наверное выложу zip с cab внутри :-)

можно вообще делать несколько пакетов:
1. для интеграции в дистриб, чтобы сделать свежайший дистриб. туда только те, что я определил. у меня в него включены extras, но нет public.
2. для интеграции в дистриб testing + extreme + public.
3. для запуска в установленной винде - друзьям и юзерам раздавать.

сейчас прочитал сообщение Abrosov и понял что повторяю. сходятся мысли.

поставил в виртуалке лишний раз - работает

в итоге
добился набора из кабов, которые интегрируются в дистриб и он свеженьким становится.
центр обновлений показывает только MRT. но для меня это фигня.
значит, работающий список в п.2 предыдущего поста.

+ сейчас смотрю в сторону MBSA и/или HFNetChkPro (Shavlik) чтобы посмотреть - как они проверяют висту. Моя догадка что они это делают через какой-то файлик xml - в котором есть номера и версии требуемых апдейтов для конкретной ОСи. Если удастся это откопать - то можно сделать некий rss канал (если его ещё нет на MS ), его парсить и иметь актуальный список требуемых апдейтов. пусть за те бабки, что я заплатил за висту MS работает на меня максимальным количеством способов

потому, что он обновления распаковывает в кабы
главное положить их в нужную папку
и чтобы скрипт их не почистил
с языковым пакетом сложнее, его рекомендуют добавлять
