I've replaced the hard drive in my XE3-GC with an Hitatchi 5K80 (40gb) with no problems. However there is one little thing you might want to be aware of. With some of the new drives (5K80 and 7K50), the electrical specification has changed slightly (according to Hitatchi). So when using these drives, the drive indicator light on the XE3-GC indicates power and not drive activity. Therefore the light will remain on constanly when the system is powered up and will not flicker when the drive is being used.
