Почему в окне восстановления сис-мы нельзя выделить требуемый день?
Скажите, почему в окне восстановления сис-мы нельзя выделить предыдущий день или любой другой? Например, мне надо вчерашнее состояние компьютера, а требуемый день не выделяется. Почему?

Потому что на него нет созданной точки восстановления, она делается либо автоматом при установке "правильных" приложений, в которые заложено создание этой точки, либо вручную.

Допустим некоторые приложения от Microsoft типа Дистрибутива эксплорера. Вообще я редко замечал что установщик какой либо програмы делает точку восстановления. Поэтому более точно назвать конкретные приложения не могу.
А создать можно в том же мастере восстановления. Сразу после запуска будет пункт "Создать точку восстановления". |
Пуск - Программы - Стандартные - Служебные - Восстановление системы или Пуск - Выполнить - %SystemRoot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe

А вот допустим я что-то "напортачил" надо всё вернуть обратно. "Поздно, батаня, поздно" Так получается?

Теперь да, если никаких точек не было созданно, то имеется только одна, на момент установки системы, к ней ты и можешь вернутся.

Ну как бы если прыгаешь с крыши сарая и предварительно соломки не подстелил, то таки да - "Поздно, батаня, поздно" :)

На самом деле, установщик приложений никаких точек восстановления не создает. Все точки создаются исключительно службой System Restore. Она отслеживает изменения в системе и автоматически создает точку восстановления при определенных событиях.

Event-triggered restore points

When the user chooses to install the update, the System Restore feature will create a restore point before the actual installation of the update begins. * Restore operation. If a user, for example, accidentally chooses the wrong system state to restore back to, the user can, by choosing a restore point before this operation, undo the restore operation. The user can then choose the correct restore point. The restore operation itself will create a restore point for undo purposes.
Note Only administrators or owners can restore.
* Microsoft Backup Utility Recovery. Before Microsoft Backup Utility performs a backup recovery, System Restore will create a restore point. In the event the recovery is cancelled or leaves the system in an undesirable state, users can use this restore point to revert the system to the point before the recovery started.
* Unsigned driver installation. Unsigned device driver installations are detected by the INF installer of Windows. Before the installation proceeds, a restore point is created so in the event the installation results in a harmful impact to the system, users can restore to the point immediately before the unsigned driver installation.
* Manual Restore points. At any time, users (administrator/owner users only) may create and name an on-demand restore point. This is useful to create a "checkpoint" to return to preceding a particularly risky change, before a shared system is left to other users, or at a particular state the user perceives to be optimal.

В XP нет способа и возможности восстановить девственно чистую точку системы (реестр, драйверы...), да?
(Без новой установки или Repair'a.)

Такой возможности нет, и даже Repair нельзя считать "чистой".

Установку в режиме обновления ну никак нельзя называть чистой, реестр остается тем же - это как минимум (но и это не мало).
