The only computer in my classroom that has USB enabled is dieing from time to time with this error:
Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:\WINNT\SYSTE M32\CONFIG\SYSTEMced
There are some possible reasons:
1. The user logged on (Restricted Users) is not removing properly the USB device.
2. After the user worked with a Flash, the computer is shut down improperly
by pressing the on/off button from the case, so the system cannot
make changes to the registry.
So I think the problem is in registry.
The user has just READ permission in HKLM & HKCU !
So 100% the problem is in USB cose there are other workstatations with identical System
but with USB disabled & never died !
Today when I came to wrk to see what's going on,
that computer was dead, but now with another reason:
Windows 2000 could not start because of an error in the software.
Please report this problem as:
Loaded error 3.
Please contact your system person to report this problem.
The good thing about it is that I have the backup of the system files,
with ERUNT (Emergency Recovery Utility NT).
So I just boot with a Live CD and overwrite the bad "\\config\system " with
the backup.
And the system is back on track.
But I want to know why the system is dieing, to prevent it !
...cose there are times when I miss wrk serveral days,
and that workstation being the only one with USB enabled (Security reasons)
creates problem for me.
I've noticed that the bad system file weight more than the good one:
the bad system file has: 10 596 352 Mb
the good system file has: 10 465 280 Mb
So maybe someone has a clue about this, and knows what to do ?!
Waiting for reply.
10x in advance.
