Scanner jam in all HP PSC has nothing to do with cleaning nor dissasembling of the printer. It isn't any mechanical failure but electrical one. The only soultion is to reset the printer. If that fails nothing more can be done. All cleaning advised earlier caused probably only accidental reset and therefore it helped. Fault is the effect of erroneous currents feeding scanner belt motor so just here some "repair" is necessary. To reset the printer:
1.Unplug it (remove the cable physically) from wall or from back side of the unit
2.Keep two buttons down at the same time:
a.cancel button (pink one in my PSC2175 - can be different in other PSCs)
b.right arrow
Buttons have to be kept together!
3.Plug the printer again (don't release buttons!)
4.After that light under three large oval buttons should turn on for a second (short blink).
If that doesn't help - repeat it. If second trial fails - go to HP service, nothing more can be done at home without dedicated help.
I had similar problem and solution was kindly supplied by Polish Branch of HP Support. It worked in case of my scanner, no more scanner tractor jams, no more terrible sounds and awful noise. HTH.

I`v solved the problem by pushing different buttons on the printer (PSC 2175). As a result, I believe, I had stoped the procedure of intialization of the scaner and after that printer is fully functional. It worked out several times and at last I decided not to swith off the mashine for the longest possible time. Also during the process of finding the right combination of the buttons, I found out that keeping down the cancel and color print buttons down together brings you to a special avoid check menu, wich starts the procedure of manual buttons checking. However at last it did not help me and I had to waste 10 or 15 minutes to find out the right combination to turn off the scaner initialization procedure to start using the printer proparly.

Thanks for this great post. Holding done the cancel button and the down arrow did initiate a reset. However, this didn't fix the problem. So I took it apart and cleaned the glass window and the mirrors with a cotton swab. Then reassembled. At first the machine wouldn't turn on at all. So I took it back apart and reversed the side that I had plugged in the cable going to the control panel and then reassembled the machine. This time it turned on. At first try it did not seem that the cable would fit into the control panel in the opposite direction but, it does. I suggest trying this if your machine will not turn on at all after reassembly. The machine now works great and is scanning and copying just like new. Thanks again for saving me not only money on a new machine but, money on ink cartridges which I would have had to discard because, they have discontinued this model. Note to anyone trying to take apart the machine for cleaning. Just work slowly and gently so that you don't crack any of the parts. No brute force was necessary at any time to disassemble. If you find that you need to really pull at it to take it apart then you should go back and re-read the instructions because, you must be missing a small detail of disassembly.
комбинация Отмена+Цветная копия привела ко входу в некое сервисное меню (?), я там ничего делать не стал, нажал на Вкл, на дисплее появились надписи о тесте чего-то там, а потом он включился, но печатать отказывался (а писали "turn off the scaner initialization procedure to start using the printer proparly")
